UP CLOSE with NATURE

These paper wasps built their nest on a bougainvillea that we had growing in a plant pot. The
nest appeared to be a simple structure of about four to five inches long (roughly 10 to 13cm)
suspended from a branch like a shrivelled, dried up chilli. (The problem with this
analogy is that the chilli would have fallen off before it dries up.) The cells were built
at a slight incline and the heads of the larvae could sometimes be seen at the lower, open ends until
these were sealed when the larvae developed into pupae.
