The caterpillars of the Common Palmfly (Elymnias hypermnestra agina) feed on a
wide variety of palms, including the coconut tree. So this species is common in coconut
plantations and localities where palms are grown. This newly emerged butterfly (picture), still hanging
onto its pupa case, was bred out from a caterpillar I found feeding on a decorative
palm growing in a pot. This gave me the chance to observe its life cycle.
