The Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus chrysippus) is a “milkweed butterfly” also known as the African Monarch or Golden Wanderer. This butterfly may be seen flying into rural or suburban gardens to feed on flower nectar while its caterpillars may be found feeding on the leaves of the Crown Flower (Calotropis gigantea). This species of the milkweed family is often planted by the Indian community in Malaysia as a medicinal herb.
