The genus Cethosia comprises some of the most beautiful tropical butterflies, and this Malay Lacewing (Cethosia hypsea hypsina) is an example although this faded photo does not do complete justice to the species. The butterfly’s common name alludes to a particular type of fabric and you can see why. The white, serrated pattern on the wing margins is rather similar to the edgings on lace.
