UP CLOSE WITH SPIDERS INTRODUCTION
Introduction
WELCOME! My name is Chin Fah Shin. Spiders are good subjects for close-up nature
photo- graphy. Since they live in nearly every type of habitat they are also
easily available. After indulging in nature photography for many years, I believe
I now have enough photos of spiders to build a website.
At this point, I must admit that I am not an arachnologist, and my knowledge of spiders is
really limited. So, I will not go too much into the biology of spiders but will provide only general information gleaned
from various sources. My main focus is in this endeavour is to share my photos with nature
lovers, especially the spider
enthusiast or arachnophile. And the title of this site alludes to the genre of photography rather than an intimate
knowledge of the eight-legged creatures.
There may be several more photos that I want to include in this
site, but for the time being I am taking a pause. I have tried my best to present the photos of the various species as best I can, in an orderly fashion according to scientific classification. If I have made
a mistake in identification or in other areas, please post
a message for me in the guestbook or contact me.
For identification and other information, I rely mainly on two books An Introduction to the
Spiders of South East Asia written by Frances and John Murphy and published by the
Malaysian Nature Society, and A
Guide to Common Singapore Spiders written by Joseph K.H. Koh and published by the
Singapore Science Centre.
If you wish to acquire these books, please contact the publishers at their websites.
Thank you for dropping by. Happy browsing!
