The Giant Forest Ant is conspicuous not only because of its size; it is also a common species. Single individuals or groups comprising several individuals can often be seen foraging among forest floor detritus. Camponotus gigas is said to have a varied diet, feeding on other dead insects (even animal carcasses) and also fruits and flowers that have fallen onto the forest floor.
