Keeping cool on a hot, sunny day...
A dragonfly usually perches with its body in a horizontal position. This specimen, which I
photographed in a fruit orchard in Beruas, Perak, in the mid-1990s, had taken
an upright posture as if it was doing a handstand. It had assumed this “obelisk posture” to cool itself by
minimising the rays of the sun striking its body.
