The weaver ant... This is the winged form of the weaver ant (Oecophylla
smaragdina). It is in this form that fertile weaver ants fly off from their nests to build
new colonies. This ant, which I photographed on a pandan plant (Pandanus) some
years ago, had already shedded its wings. It was carrying in its jaws what appeared to be a larva.
