The weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) is a very aggressive insect renowned
for its excruciating bite. It serves as a good model for the jumping spider Myrmarachne
plataleoides. This ant (picture) takes up a characteristic posture, rearing up with its
jaws or mandibles wide apart, ready to bite. The weaver ant is not only mimicked
by M. plataleoides but also by the crab spider Amyciaea lineatipes.
