This looks like the Multi-Coloured St. Andrews Cross Spider (Argiope versicolor) but
there are subtle differences in colour and pattern on its abdomen.
This picture was taken at Bukit Hijau in Kedah in the mid-1990s. The red background was
actually the leaf of an ornamental plant on which the spider had built its web.
