This picture was taken in Ulu Bruas, Perak, in the mid-1990s. A second flash unit was
used to bring out the web. Argiope spiders hold their legs in pairs and
align them with the X, or St. Andrews Cross, formed by laying down extra layers
of silk. The zig-zag pattern of the thicker layers gives
rise to another name, Signature Spiders.
