“Kissing” jumped to mind when I first saw ants doing this. Perhaps, in a broad sense,
it’s kissing as this is a social behaviour. These ants (Anoplolepis longipes)
were actually engaging in trophallaxis, exchanging fluids from their gut. It is believed that
chemicals or hormones are passed around in this manner among the members of a social insect colony.
