Stalk-eyed flies are usually found among forest-floor detritus in damp and well-shaded areas of the forest. This one was seen walking on a dead leaf beside a forest stream. Some stalk-eyed flies may also be found near shady areas beside rice fields, but in Malaysia they are not considered serious pests.
